Algar is a leading company in the environmental sector in the Algarve region.

It is part of the MOTA-ENGIL Group and is responsible for ensuring

the treatment and recovery of waste in the most environmentally friendly

and economically sustainable way, contributing to improving the quality of

life and the environment. It processes around 400,000 tonnes of municipal waste (MW) annually, serving a population of 450,000 people spread across 16 municipalities, in an area of 5,000 m2.

Established on 20 May 1995, Algar's priority is to contribute to the fulfilment of national and EU strategies and targets for the sector, with an emphasis on increasing the selective collection of multi-material packaging and diverting biodegradable urban waste from landfill.
