|Integrated Quality and Environmental Management System Algar’s adoption of an Integrated Quality and Environmental Management System was the result of a strategic decision with repercussions for the entire organisation. Fundamental in terms of competitiveness, the system adopted is intended to ensure that maximum benefit is derived by everyone involved in the process: customers, collaborators, suppliers, shareholders and society as a whole. Integrated development and maintenance are made easier, more efficient and more effective thanks to better rationalisation of resources, greater awareness and responsibility and, above all, a management strategy with mission, vision and a defined policy for the sole purpose of ensuring continued, overall improvement in Algar’s performance. In 2008, as a consequence of the Management’s commitment to continuous improvement and the transversal involvement of the Management Areas, Algar hopes to achieve its management goal of double certification – Quality and the Environment – extending the scope of the certification of the Integrated Quality and Environmental Management System in accordance with norms NP EN ISO 9001:2000 and NP EN ISO 14001:2004 respectively to every administrative and support facility, as well as to all its operational facilities: - Sanitary Landfills - Transfer Stations - Eco-centres - Selective Collection - Sorting Stations - Energy Recovery from Biogas - Green Composting - Leachate Treatment and Monitoring To this end, a new department has been created – Quality and the Environment – whose purpose is to implement and maintain the entire system in every Algar infrastructure. The intention is to encourage greater all-round efficiency for the sake of everyone’s satisfaction, listening to people’s concerns whenever possible. The new department will also be responsible for ensuring environmental protection throughout all its acitivities, promoting, wherever appropriate, technically viable and cost-effective, the use of the best available techniques, leading to continuous improvement of environmental performance and the prevention of pollution.
